Arrow Housewarming Party 2011

FOOD, games and performances abound on a social night organised by the resident community at international student accommodation Arrow on Swanston in Carlton, with more than 100 people in attendance .

The housewarming party was held on Wednesday March 10 to welcome newcomers to the neighbourhood and celebrate the start of a new semester – but preparations had begun well in advance.

Students made good use of their weekly neighbourhood night dinners to rally friends, brainstorm ideas, rehearse and put together an altogether entertaining programme. Even the food was prepared in-house.

Who could forget Yin Jen Lai’s impressive homage to the King of Pop? He salvaged an awkward moment with an impromptu performance while the sound crew struggled to iron out the technical difficulties. The screams and cheers from the crowd said it all.

The night ended with a Bollywood mass dance – led by a team of budding young dancers preparing to be a part of the Largest Bollywood Dance Class Guinness World Book of Records attempt at the Moomba Festival this Saturday March 12.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a crowd more enthusiastic and sporting than this – just watch 1:38 of the video – and the hilarity that ensued as friends dragged an “escapee” back into their fold halfway through the dance routine.

Ah, life is a journey, and it’s better doing it together.
