Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Crème

We previously showed you how to keep your skin moisturised in the winter. This time, Emily Quak shows you a number of makeup products you want to have in your arsenal during wintertime to combat dull, dry skin and achieve that healthy, dewy glow.

Use skin enhancers

These products are like moisturisers, which contain finely milled particles of shimmer. They work on top of your normal skincare routine and beneath your makeup to give your skin a healthy glow and luminescence – something that you usually only see in the summertime with a bit of a tan.

They come in a myriad of colours to suit all skin types. For example, gold shimmer is great for girls with warmer skin tones, pink shimmer is good for girls who have fair skin, and purple shimmer is suitable for both.

Some great skin enhancers include the Jemma Kidd Mannequin Skin Perfector (my personal favourite, available at Kit Cosmetics), the Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Crème, and the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (this one comes in a large range of colours to suit all skin tones).

Buy moisturising primers

Primers nowadays do much more than preventing your makeup from wearing off, containing ingredients which help moisturise your skin and keeping it dewy but not oily. A great example of this is the Face of Australia Face Base Primer, which contains Vitamin E to help nourish and hydrate your skin.

Spritz moisturising mists onto your face, like the Herbalife C Radiant Face Quencher, at the end of your makeup routine.

Use moisturising mists

Mists can do many things. You can use them to wet your makeup brushes to increase the intensity of the pigments in your makeup, or you can use them to help your makeup set into place. How does it help winter-dry skin?

Spritz it onto your face after you have finished your makeup routine to help set your makeup, and to create a dewiness that you probably took away with powder products. Of course, these mists contain moisturising properties so that when the water evaporates, it doesn’t take your skin’s moisture along with it.

The spray I am using is the Herbalife C Radiant Face Quencher (pictured above), which unfortunately, is not readily available here in Australia. A great option is the Jurlique Lavender Hydrating Mist, which smells amazing!

Choose the right foundation

There are many types of foundations in today’s market. If you are suffering from dry skin, use hydrating foundations, like Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua, or Pro Lumiere, which keep your skin moisturised.

And this may come as a surprise to some, but people with oily skin types can suffer from dehydrated skin too. That is, your skin lacks moisture, as opposed to people who suffer from dry skin which is the result of a lack oil or sebum. Dehydrated skin can be caused by environmental factors and exposure to central heating, and you can combat by using an oil-free moisturizer, followed by a moisturizing, mattifying primer. This way, you can still use foundations with a dewy finish instead of mattifying foundations, which can make your skin look dull.

Protect yourself from the sun

This is the most important step in your skincare routine! Always, always wear an SPF of at least 15, even when the sky looks dark and gloomy. UV rays are always present, and without SPF, your will be vulnerable to getting dry skin, wrinkles, and hyper pigmentation.

Some moisturisers already contain SPF, like the Clean & Clear Essentials Moisturizer SPF 15, or the Benefit b.right Triple Performing Emulsion, which also contains an SPF of 15.

And finally, remember that above all, you can stay hydrated simply by drinking lots of H20. Carry a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. Your skin will thank you for it.
