Meld’s Halloween Guide (Part 2): Creepy tunes

Now that your costume is sorted, Juliana Mare has your Halloween playlist covered with songs about ghosts, aliens, and werewolves. Time for the zombie shuffle!

Thriller – Michael Jackson

It may as well be the theme song of Halloween seeing as MJ’s singing about evil lurking in the dark, beasts about to strike and night creatures calling. There’s at least one reference to every monster in the book and not to mention, the music video is loaded with synchronised dancing from the walking dead.

This is Halloween – Marilyn Manson

This one kind of speaks for itself, doesn’t it? The theme song to Tim Burton’s classic Halloween movie ‘The Nightmare before Christmas’, this song also deals with the stuff from every kid’s nightmare – snakes, spiders, clowns, banshees, shadows and glowing red eyes. It’s the perfect song for Halloween night, especially if you’re settling in to watch the movie as well.

E.T – Katy Perry

Katy might be singing about wanting to hook up with this extraterrestrial, but last time we checked, aliens were a scary bunch. Anyone who’s ever watched an episode of Doctor Who will know that the absolute last thing you want to do when you meet an Ood or a Dalek, is kiss it! Nonetheless, Katy’s supernatural tune is a must for Halloween.

Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon

Get your howl on! Werewolves are one of the most popular supernatural beasts at the moment so it’s only natural that there should be a song dedicated to them playing on Halloween. It’s not all just howling at the moon though, these monsters can rip your lungs out and mutilate you – pretty scary stuff and perfect for the festival of the dead.

Ghost of you – My Chemical Romance

This is probably as close to a supernatural love song that you’ll find. It’s a story about a man who’s haunted by memories of his dead lover. This song has a macabre romance feel to it but with the recent release of ‘Paranormal Activity 4’, spirits and ghosts are one of the scariest and most popular supernatural beings at the moment.

Next, how about some games to get your party started? Hieu Chau has more.

About

Meld Magazine was incorporated as an independent not-for-profit media outlet in September 2008 to reach out to international students in Melbourne, and provide students the opportunity to gain real work experience.

Many international students live in or around the city because of the proximity to their colleges and universities, and that was where we decided to focus our efforts first. Many of us live, work and study locally too. Our editorial team is made of both local and international students, and it has worked to our advantage in providing local content in every sense of the word.
