Turn your Instagram photos into personalised wall art

WHAT do you do with all those photos you take on Instagram? A new printing service has been launched to transform your happy snaps into a focal point for your home. 

If you’ve always wanted to decorate your apartment with vintage snapshots of local cafés and tropical holidays, fret no more. Trendy new Instagram printing service PosterCandy takes your favourite snapshots from the app and transforms them into a poster-sized collage.

PosterCandy’s operations representative Tony Kenny says the idea simply arose out of “a lot of photography and Instagram”.

“It was so we could get posters made for ourselves … we wanted to get photographs out of a mobile device,” he says.

Powered by Sydney-based Look Print, PosterCandy is Australia’s answer to online printing services such as the US-exclusive Printstagram, which taps into the vast Instagram market by offering custom calendars and albums. While Fujifilm Australia prints individual Instagram shots, full collages were unavailable until PosterCandy.

“I’ve actually used similar services in the past, but I just found that there was nobody doing it here. No one was manufacturing the posters,” Tony says.

“We were based in Sydney … so we saw it as an opportunity to take something to the local market.”

Developers boast PosterCandy takes “just four simple clicks” to use. Signing up is easy enough: you need only create an account and grant PosterCandy permission to access your Instagram feed.

From there, you select between 12 to 176 of your favourite shots for the collage. PosterCandy then sorts the photos into an automatic layout or custom design.

Posters are printed in one of five sizes – the smallest is 30 x 40cm, the largest 70 x 100cm – and all of them fit standard Ikea photo frames.

The finished product usually takes two to eight working days to arrive on your doorstep.

While the company intends to focus on manufacturing the posters, it has a few other services for smartphone-using audiences in the pipeline.

“There are a few things that we’re planning. We’re looking to possibly use the iPhone photo library, or albums on the PC or Mac,” Tony says.
