14th Lavazza Italian Film Festival
Wednesday, October 2 – Sunday, October 27; Palace Cinemas (various locations)

Lygon Street might be well known for its Italian cuisine and culture but with the Lavazza Italian Film Festival around the corner, there won’t be any need to visit the famous street if you’re looking for an authentic Italian night out.

Returning for its 14th season, the Lavazza Italian Film Festival will play host to 27 new Italian features, as well as one Italian classic, and promises a line-up of exceptionally memorable features for audiences to enjoy.

Some of the films to be featured at this year’s festival have already graced prestigious festivals in Cannes and Venice. Roma, directed by influential Italian maestro, Federico Fellini, will close the festival which will be an opportunity not to be missed by fans of the director.

Supporting the work of exciting emerging artists and designers from across Australia and New Zealand, The Finders Keepers Market is the place to be this weekend for those looking to shop for quirky pieces of clothing, jewellery, accessories, stationary or artwork.

With entry into the market only setting you back $2.00, this indie-art and design market not only looks like a breeding ground for madcap creativity but should also prove to be an enjoyable day out shopping for things you mightn’t have considered buying before.

Taking place at the Royal Exhibition Building in the Carlton Gardens, the market will feature more than 150 design and art stalls over the weekend with plenty of food stalls and live music to accompany you during the weekend.

Need to let loose after a rigorous week of work? The European Bier Café is the perfect place to be this Friday as they celebrate the traditional German festival Oktoberfest!

Cited as one of the biggest events in the pub’s year, you’ll be able to celebrate the occasion with stacks of German beer, traditional German music and German cuisine, all for the merriment of Oktoberfest.

For every ticket purchased (tickets are $35.00) you’ll not only get entry into the Upstairs Bier Hall but you’ll also receive a litre of German beer, a litre beer stein that’s yours to keep as well as a traditional German brezel (a type of pretzel).
