OUR resident stationery addict Rachel Furolo gives you her insider tips on all of your back-to-university stationery needs.

The first day back at uni has arrived. But rather than leaving your textbook and stationery shopping to the last minute, here are a few stores and sites to get you organised.

Student VIP Textbooks Exchange
Previously known as Textbook Exchange, Student VIP Textbooks is the go-to site for second-hand textbooks. As its name suggests, this site is a hub for students to both buy and sell textbooks. Pick up your books for up to 50 per cent off what you would pay at your university bookshop, and while you’re at it, why not try to make a few extra dollars by listing some of your pre-owned textbooks?

The Book Depository
If you can’t do without that new book smell, head to The Book Depository, an online store based in the UK, which will ship your textbooks with FREE postage. The prices are generally a little lower than RRP and most orders will reach you within 7-10 working days.

Encompass Books
A little closer to home, Encompass Books is your best bet for textbooks if you prefer to shop in person. Located between the University of Melbourne and RMIT on Swanston Street, you’re sure to find all of your desired textbooks in one spot.
Find them at 656 Swanston St, Carlton.

Typo
It really goes without saying that Typo takes the cake for all of your stationery bits and bobs. From subject notebooks loaded with skulls/cats/Eiffel tower prints to cute and funky pencil cases to novelty ice-cream erasers, Typo has your creative side covered. The best part is that you could easily walk out of here loaded with shopping bags, but having only spent $20!
Find them on Ground Floor, Melbourne Central.

Daisuki
For the cutest kawaii Japanese stationery products, Daisuki is the online store for you. With so many different products, it’s hard to choose. But when they all come with the most adorable characters and colors on them and are less $10, there’s no need to pick just one.

Tiny Me Personalized Stationery
The Tiny Me website is all about adding that personalized touch to your stationery. With the tools to create your own designs on notebooks, calendars, name labels and journals, Tiny Me lets you put your own spin on stationery. Choose the size, colour and patterns that best suit you and don’t worry about breaking the bank as most items cost below $30 and shipping is between $2-$6.

Kmart, Big W, Officeworks
For all the basics, head to one of these department stores to make your dollar go further. Bulk sets of pens, plain notebooks and folders can easily be sourced cheaply and without frills. Kmart would be my choice out of the three for reasonable prices plus interesting designs in notebooks and folders.
