It’s back! Get your inner geek out because Oz Comic-Con’s here again!
This year, Oz Comic-Con promises a truly star-studded event, jam-packed with the best of pop culture all across Australia. This year’s Oz Comic-Con will return to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre during the weekend of July 1 and 2 to unite geeks and pop culture enthusiasts from all over Melbourne under one roof. With so much to see, do and geek out over, here are some highlights not to be missed at this year’s Melbourne Oz Comic-Con!
Melbourne’s Oz Comic-Con has truly lucked out this year. The celebrity guests this year include Rahul Kohli, Aly Michalka and Robert Buckley of iZombie, Shannon Purser of Stranger Things Sherilyn Fenn of Twin Peaks fame and Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa, soon to be seen on the silver screen this November as the iconic DC superhero Aquaman in Justice League.
For comic book superfans, DC fan favorite artist Nicola Scott will be back. Nicola is one of the most well-known and loved artists for Wonder Woman, and has also worked on Birds of Prey and Teen Titans. Currently she is working with Greg Rucka on the second volume of their series Black Magick out with Image Comics. Other comic book writers present include Dean Rankine, a super writer most famous for his work on The Simpsons comics as well as Queenie Chan, manga artist and writer for TOKYOPOP who also collaborated with best-selling author Dean Koontz for his Odd Thomas series.
Of course, any pop culture convention will have its fair share of cosplayers, but the Melbourne leg of Oz Comic-Con one ups this with a Fashion Show!
The Oz Comic-Con Fashion Show is a chance for all aspiring costume and fashion designers out there to unleash their creativity by coming up with a couture look inspired by pop culture or their favourite characters. Entrants can come as individuals or as a team of two so long as they are not professional. The closing date to apply is June 9 so hurry! In addition to the newly added Fashion Show, there are the usual Anime Station, Gaming Zone and Family Room in place to ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne. If you’re in the mood for splurging and indulgent your pop culture needs, there’s also the show floor with heaps of merchandise from comic books, the uber popular Funko Pop figures and all kinds of toys and collectible figurines.
