You can never go wrong with cakes. Cakes are one of those things that provide comfort from the stress of student life and also a reward for small victories in life.

But with so many cake shops in Melbourne, just where, oh where, should students go to get their just desserts?

To save you the trouble, we’ve found four of the best cake shops in Melbourne that are totally worth your time and money!

LuxBite

“Life is uncertain, Eat dessert first”. This well-marked slogan is posted on the front window of Luxbite and should certainly be a sign of things to come for visitors.

The store’s positive attitude towards its cakes significantly affect how their cakes are produced. One of the best cakes at LuxBite is the Kuma cake which costs $9.50.

The Kuma cake, which is named after the Japanese word for bear, is just that — a cake with the design of a cute little bear (it’s so innocent looking you might not want to eat it!). But the taste of the Kuma cake is even more attractive than its appearance. Generally, the cake is made of two tantalising layers, the baked choc chip cookie in chocolate tart pastry, filled with strawberry & banana cream and topped with white chocolate milkshake mousse and caramel glaze.

For cake lovers, the taste of the Kuma cake evokes a sense of nostalgia so have a try of it — you won’t regret it!

Address: 38 Toorak Road, South Yarra
Opening hours: Open 7 days (8.00am – 7.00pm)

Hopetoun Tea Room

Hopetoun Tea Room is a classic well-known cake place in Melbourne. All the cakes on their display are pleasing to the eyes and mouth-watering.

Choosing a favourite cake is difficult here but we’re inclined to agree that the Mango Mousse at Hopetoun is perhaps the cake most worth trying.

The mango jelly-like layer on top of the fluffy mousse, as well as a few mango chunks in between, make it a perfect cake combination. Everything just melts in the mouth nicely, making you crave for more.

A hot brewing cup of tea of your choice would absolutely complement any cake you eat. There’s no other place like Hopetoun that can give you an evocative vibe through its Victorian interior and decor while having tea with your friends or family. Though their prices are slightly on the high-end, you will be pleased by your experience there.

Address: The Block Arcade, 1-2/282 Collins St, CBD
Opening hours: Mon to Sat (8.00am to 5.00pm) | Sun (9.00am to 5.00pm)

Mister Nice Guy’s Bake Shop

Located in the north-western suburb Ascot Vale, Mister Nice Guy’s Bake Shop offers various flavours of vegan cupcakes and cakes.

Their menu changes everyday but if you are lucky, you should try their Lemon & Lime Cheesecake. Not like the typical cheesecake out there, it is very light and doesn’t make you feel sick.

The small blob of cream on top of it has a very unique flavour, which complements the cheesecake really well. Furthermore, the lemon and lime taste blends nicely without overpowering each other. For people with specific and strict dietary requirements, this place would be their heaven too because cake orders can be customised up to the customers’ needs.

Even if you are not a vegan but curious to taste their bake goods, it is certainly worth the try.

Address: 151 Union Rd, Ascot Vale
Opening hours: Weekday 9.00am to 5.30pm | Weekend (8.00am to 5.00pm)

Raw Trader

For vegetarians and vegans, Raw Trader would be one good choice. Remember to try their chocolate hazelnut cake.

The rich taste of dark chocolate won’t let you regret your choice. Compared to normal cakes, the cakes provided in the Raw Trader taste just as good as other cakes but come with the added benefit of being very healthy. Raw Trader café specialises in organic, raw, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten free, dairy free & sugar free, healthy desserts and treats.

The average cost is pretty reasonable and it’s located just in the CBD, near Melbourne Central station.

The friendly staff and plain decoration of the shop Raw Trader a comfortable and natural atmosphere to enjoy your desserts.

Address: 10 Sutherland St, CBD, Melbourne
Opening hours: Weekday (7.30am to 6.00pm) | Sat (10.30am to 4.30pm) | Sunday closed
