From Robe to Chinese Fortunes

When the gold rush struck Australia, thousands of Chinese men and women made their way across the sea hoping to make their fortunes.

For a glimpse at what Chinese miners experienced during this colonial period and to further understand the facets of Chinese diaspora in Australia, visit the Immigration Museum’s new From Robe to Chinese Fortunes exhibition opening this weekend and gain insight over the hardships, spirit and legacies of the Chinese during this time period. 

You can also celebrate the exhibition at its kick-off Chinese Fortunes Festival this Sunday too where you can expect lion dancing, live music, dumpling tastings, art installations and other various activities for a fun-filled day!

Madame Brussels Lane European Night Market

Supersense: Festival of the Ecstatic
August 18, 2017 – August 20, 2017 | Arts Centre Melbourne (100 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne)

Arts Centre Melbourne is collaborating with wandering curator and performer Sophia Brous to bring you a three-day ecstatic experience.

The ‘festival-as-theatre’ will showcase international artists such as Spiritualized, Pussy Riot Theatre, The Ecstatic Music of Alice and more. A confluence of ritual, expression and transformation featuring more than 14 Australian exclusives, 13 Australian premieres, four world premieres and five Supersense commissions is sure to leave your mind blown.
