Independent news and analysis website New Matilda is looking for a savvy social media intern, and you have until tomorrow, Friday July 22, to apply.
The team at New Matilda has been publishing intelligent coverage of Australian politics, business, civil society, international affairs, media and culture since 2004, and has built a large and loyal following online.
They are now looking for a self-starter with some big ideas that can help further expand New Matilda’s readership – a social media enthusiast with some understanding of what they are trying to achieve at New Matilda and how they relate to the community. The tools that might work for a highly commercial site won’t be appropriate for them though, so make sure you have some ideas about what will work.
If you’ve got prior work experience in social media, it’d definitely be a bonus. That said, you will still stand a good chance if you can show them you’ve got ideas, enthusiasm and drive, and demonstrate you’ve got the nous to increase traffic to their website through social media, build existing networks on social media, increase the visibility of their website online, and promote their content.
Interns will be required to start work from the beginning of August till the end of the year, for about five to eight hours a week. Sydney-siders have the option of working out of New Matilda’s office in Surry Hills for one afternoon a week; or online if you’re based elsewhere in Australia.
Do note though, the internship is not an editorial position and the successful applicant won’t be involved in producing the stories that are published on the website every day.
