Festival of Indonesia

FESTIVAL of Indonesia, the largest Indonesian-Australian investment, trade and tourism forum in Australia, will be back this weekend. To be held at Queensbridge Square, Southbank, the festival promises to showcase the cultures, talents and tourist attractions of Southeast Asia’s biggest economy.

This year’s festival has taken the theme “Journey through the Wonders of Indonesia”, and will features Indonesian food and cultural performances of angklung and sasando (traditional Indonesian instruments), gamelan (a traditional Balinese musical ensemble), and dangdut (a kind of Indonesian pop music). Visitors can learn traditional Indonesian games, instruments and crafts, such as the aforementioned angklung, wayang (shadow-puppet) making, batik painting and face painting, and attend cooking demonstrations by “Indonesian MasterChefs”.

Travel-lovers may also be interested in getting information about Indonesia, as the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia will be there.

Even more exciting, there will be a “Batik Walk” – so wear your batik and win the best batik clothing of the day award.
