The 2012 Next Wave Festival challenges emerging artists to create urgent, risky, generous, ambitious, fun and essential art. Across 38 projects, nine days and many unusual Melbourne locations, the Festival prompts audiences to reconsider what understandings of what contemporary art can be. Fun, cheeky and engaging explorations of ritual, parties and food create an extended perspective on the bigger moments in life where our sense of humanity is focused and condensed.
Investigating twin concepts of urgency and generosity, the 2012 program offers whole-day journeys into a culture of new ideas created by the next wave of emerging artists.
