Singapore Film Festival 2012 Melbourne

The Singapore Film Festival Melbourne is less than a week away – and we have four more tickets to give out!

Singapore Film Festival Melbourne is all about bringing a unique piece of Asian cinema to Australia. Catch classic Singaporean films like It’s a Great Great World, Be With Me, and Army Daze at this year’s festival.

Eric Khoo’s Be With Me is based on the story of real-life deaf and mute teacher Theresa Chan. This story is told in four parts; three of which are fictional, and one inspired by reality. While Be With Me has little dialogue, one may be reminded that communication surpasses mere speech. An action, one look, and sheer determination – all can speak louder than words.

Keng Sen Ong’s Army Daze is a funny, poignant take on National Service in Singapore, where all males over 18 are conscripted into the army for two years. Based on a play written by Michael Chiang, Army Daze gives us a glimpse into the elusive world of young boys who are thrown into an altogether unfamiliar environment – who become lifelong friends after a series of adventures.
