The Weekender

CATCH a free gig, fast from alcohol for a good cause, or salsa your way into a brand new week this weekend. Diane Leow brings the details.

Time to play, the weekend is here!

QV Summer Sounds
Until February 24

QV Summer Sounds kicks off this weekend with Evermore performing live on Friday, February 8 from 5.30pm. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday till February 24, QV Square will be transformed into a grassy, chic area with live music, and more. For more info, click through to the QV website.

Feb Fast
Until February 28

Still feeling the after effects of overindulging during the festive season? Perhaps Febfast is for you – a 28 day alcohol detox that’s happening nationwide. Touted as “the pause for a cause”, you can sign up to abstain from alcohol. Ask others to follow your journey, and raise funds for a worthy cause – that is, to help vulnerable young people and families going through serious alcohol and drug issues. For more information, head to the Febfast website.

Melbourne Zoo Twilights
Until March 9

Fancy the idea of fighting against wildlife extinction while catching a gig? Check out the Melbourne Zoo’s Twilights series – where some of the best local talent perform to raise awareness about wildlife conservation. Introspective songstress Lisa Mitchell is performing this weekend – check out the above video to listen to her newest single, ‘Bless This Mess’. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased online. For information on upcoming acts, do check out the Melbourne Zoos Twilights website.
