Malaysian cooking and Melbourne coffee workshops

ROLL up your sleeves for some Malaysian home-cooking, and whiff, taste and froth in a masterclass exploring Melbourne’s obsession with coffee. It’s all part of our brand new At Home and Abroad cultural experience workshops!

Malaysian cooking and Melbourne coffee workshops

Held in conjunction with the City of Melbourne, we’re proud to present the brand new At Home and Abroad cultural experience series, offering you the best of both worlds with a Malaysian home-cooking workshop, and a coffee masterclass that explains why Melbourne is so hung up about the caffeine.

Malaysian home-cooking with Aunty Khoo’s
Sunday July 28, 4 to 6pm – Urban Garden at Arrow on Swanston, Basement, 488 Swanston St, Carlton

No more sambal from a jar! Learn from Aunty Khoo’s – the team behind last year’s sold out Mamak Night – as they show you how to make Nasi Lemak from scratch, impress with a Teh-C Peng Special (three-layer milk tea), and for dessert – to knead, fill and roll your own Onde Onde.

You’ll also get a chance to show off your wok-tossing skills in an Indo Mee Goreng cook-off.

There are prizes to be won, recipe cards for everyone to take home, and of course, a chance to dig in to the dishes that remind you of home.

Cost: Gold coin donation at the door.

Coffee masterclass with Andrew Mayne
Thursday August 8, 7 to 8.30pm – The Couch, 69 Bourke St, Melbourne

Why is Melbourne so obsessed about coffee? What types of coffee are there? And how can you tell a good one from a bad one?

Barista Andrew Mayne will be sharing the secrets behind coffee making and appreciation, and offer insights into Melbourne’s distinct coffee culture.

There’ll be opportunities to get behind the machine and have a go at extracting and frothing – and you may come to appreciate why coffee making is an art and science!

Enjoy a free cuppa on the house, and it may be the start of an unquenchable thirst for more of the liquid gold.

Cost: Gold coin donation at the door.
