Come along to the AFIS International Student Volunteer Seminar!
PICK up jobhunting tips, know your work rights, and learn how you can help your community become a better place. Come along to the Australian Federation of International Student (AFIS)’s International Student Volunteer Seminar. Jordan Thompson brings you the details.
We are all about helping international students have the best time they can and the Australian Federation of International Students (AFIS) is an organisation that shares our passion.
Next week, they are organising an International Student Volunteer Seminar – it is a great opportunity for students to engage with the local community, develop leadership skills, and civic responsibility while having some fun.
Guest speakers from the Salvation Army, the City of Melbourne, and Meld Magazine will be present on the day. Pick up some tips for jobhunting, understand the benefits of volunteering, and learn about your work rights here in Australia.
You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in group discussions and have your questions answered during a Q&A session. Dinner will be provided as well.
If you are interested in immersing yourself in the local community though volunteering, whether short term or long term, then this seminar is a great way to get started. With a range of international students from Universities, TAFE/VETs, and private colleges from across Melbourne expected to attend, it will be an opportunity to meet like-minded people, and find out about the multitude of volunteering opportunities available for international students in Melbourne.
Best of all, this event is free!
The AFIS International Student Volunteer Seminar is running on Tuesday, September 3 2013 from 6 to 9 pm at The Couch, 69 Bourke Street. For further details, check out the Facebook event page. RSVPs are encouraged as it will greatly help AFIS with catering. Simply click “attending” on the event page to register your interest.
