New Victorian International Education Awards to offer $20,000 of scholarships
CALLING all high achievers! International students have the chance to win up to $20,000 in scholarships with the Victorian Government’s new International Education Awards. Jordan Thompson reports.
The Victorian International Education Awards (VIEA) is a brand new initiative by the Victorian Government to recognise and reward outstanding achievements and excellence in international education.
The awards cover both Victorian international education providers as well as Victorian international students. Under the international student awards, four categories are represented, with scholarships of up to $10,000 offered.
Additionally, a further $10,000 will granted to the winner of the Premier’s Award, for which candidates of the other categories are automatically considered. This means that one outstanding student could receive up to $20,000 in scholarships to contribute to their study expenses in Victoria.
Applications close on September 11 at 5pm. If you believe you have proven your ability to seize opportunities, embrace challenges and demonstrate high levels of achievement then you could be eligible to apply. Of particular importance will be your demonstrated leadership in community initiatives and an eagerness to engage with others. These attributes are the common area of assessment throughout all of the student awards, but here are the more specific categories:
1. International Student of the Year – Postgraduate
Awarded to an international student who has been pursuing a postgraduate research program either at Masters or PhD level.
2. International Student of the Year – Higher Education
Awarded to an international student who has studied an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework based program.
3. International Student of the Year – Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Awarded to an international student who has undertaken a VET course.
4. International Student of the Year – English Language Training
Awarded to an international student who has studied a minimum of 20 weeks of an English Language course.
5. The Premier’s Award
Awarded to a candidate from any of the above categories as the overall International Student of the Year.
