Singapore Day arrives in Sydney

FOR the first time ever, Singapore Day touches down in Sydney. Sol Ahn finds out how Singaporeans living or studying abroad can reconnect with their home country.

Feeling a bit homesick? If you’re a Singaporean living in Sydney, this Saturday, October 12, you can feel like you’re back home as Singapore Day will be coming to Sydney for the very first time.

Billed as a day for Singaporeans who miss their home, food, friends and family, this event will see Singaporeans treated to a variety of food and will feature live entertainment as well. For many young Singaporeans studying abroad, this event should be used as an opportunity for them to reconnect with their roots and connect with the Singaporean community at large, a sentiment that Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean shares.

“It is an opportunity for [Singaporeans] to come together, update themselves on what’s happening in Singapore, meet friends and reconnect,” he said at last year’s Singapore Day in New York.

For those missing the taste of Singapore, traditional Singaporean dishes like Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak, Chey Sua Carrot Cake, Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and a variety of others will be on hand to satiate those taste buds.

Entertainment-wise, Singaporeans will also have the chance to meet singer Dick Lee, actor Chua Enlai and many entertainment personalities when they touch down in Sydney.
