FTW: See Hollywood Adventures at Lido Cinemas
MELBOURNE’S newest cinema, Lido Cinemas, is coming to Glenferrie next week! To celebrate, we’ve got two double passes to Chinese film Hollywood Adventures to give away! Antonina Mtanu has the details.
Opening its doors next week on June 25 is Melbourne’s newest cinema attraction, Lido Cinemas.
Based in Glenferrie, the new eight screen artiplex is located just outside Swinburne University and promises to bring audiences an impressive selection of new commercial and independent releases. The renovated building, which was originally planned to open on Boxing Day last year, follows a similar exhibition model to Lido’s other two renovated cinema houses: the Classic in Elsternwick and the Cameo in Belgrave.
Films that audiences can expect to see at the cinema will include new commercial releases such as Disney Pixar’s Inside Out and Jurassic World as well as independent fare such as the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson biopic Love and Mercy and melodramatic period film Far From the Madding Crowd.
The cinema has also joined forces with major Chinese film distributor China Lion Entertainment and will be showcasing some of China’s newest commercial releases. It has already announced that it will be screening Hollywood Adventure – a cross cultural action-packed film produced by Justin Lin, best known for his work on the Fast and Furious franchise – and the romantic comedy Only You starring Tang Wei (Lust Caution, Blackhat) and Liao Fan (Black Coal, Thin Ice).
Additionally, Lido has also announced that it will be hosting the 2015 Chinese International Film Festival from November 29 – December 6.
Students of Swinburne’s School of Film and Television will also be treated to a major retrospective based on the many works of the university’s alumni over the past 48 years. Planned with a year-long run in mind, Lido Cinemas will be screening shorts, animations and documentaries on the first Monday of every month starting September with interviews and Q&A sessions following each screening.
