Hophaus Annual Dachshund Race
Saturday, Sept 24 (From 11.00am) | Southgate Podium Level

Who needs horse racing when you’ve got costumed, floppy-eared dachshunds races?!

Returning for yet another paw-fect event this year, is the Hophaus Dachshund Race — a race that is likely to set the hearts of dog lovers aflutter. As part of Hophaus’ Oktoberfest festivities, see more than 70 of these bite-sized dachshunds dash around the pavement. The race will 12 heats along a teensy 15-metre racetrack.

Just to add to the cute factor, the ‘Best Dressed Dachshund’ award at noon is possibly the most sought after award in the event, with last year’s contenders for best costume including a doggy pilot, Melbourne trams, and floppy lifeguard. The race will also see Hophaus team up again with online retailer My Dachshund Online where they aim to raise money for Dachshund Rescue Australia.

No entry fee is required for onlookers to watch the race but it is expected to be very busy, so it’s basically first in best dressed. Priority is given to racing dogs and costume competition entrants.

What about food, you say? The show wouldn’t be complete without some of the best in Melbourne’s food scene. Think pop-up restaurants and eateries from the famous Bomba, Mr Claws, Pho Nom, Mr Miyagi, Royale Brothers Burgers and Burn City Smokers! serving up their delicious signature dishes.
