PASSENGERS using Android devices can now plan their public transport journey from their mobile phones.

A new Metlink application, currently in its beta version, enables passengers to plan their journey, check schedules for trains, trams and buses, receive real-time tram departure times through tramTRACKERS and use GPS to find their closest stops. Passengers can also see unplanned changes for metro trains and load their favorite stations and stops for quick access to timetables.

Free for download through the online Android Market, the application works on mobile devices using Android operating system 2.1 or higher.

Metlink is encouraging customers to try out the application and give them feedback to help them to improve the product.

“An important part of Metlink’s digital product development is to monitor passengers’ information needs, so any feedback about the app can be submitted using the app’s ‘feedback’ tab,” Metlink spokeswoman Donna Watson said.

The Android application is the latest addition to the line of mobile applications developed by Metlink, which includes iPhone and Nokia applications. Alternatively, passengers who not using iPhone, Nokia or Android can access Metlink’s mobile departure board at http://metlink.mobi/ from any mobile phone with internet access.

Have you downloaded the app? Is it yay or nay? Tell us in the comments section below.
