FROM Japanese director Sion Sono comes his latest film creation, Tokyo Tribe – a hip-hop/gangster rap musical jam-packed with comedy, martial arts and a colourful futuristic TokyoStephen Clarke has the details on how you can win one of three copies of the film!

If you’re familiar with filmmaker Sion Sono‘s other works like Why Don’t You Play in Hell or Guilty of Romance then you’ll know that he is renowned for producing strange films and mixing together unlikely genres.

Set in an alternate Tokyo which has been divided into 23 rival ‘tribes’, Tokyo Tribe is a Japanese ‘rap-opera’ that plays like a cross between The Warriors and West Side Story.

When two rival tribes begin a war in a city already rife with corruption and violence, their battle further plunges Tokyo into chaos. Unfolding on screen as a hip-hop musical, Sono draws on his vivid imagination to bring out all kinds of crazy characters into the fray.

Sono chose to feature real rappers, tattoo artists and stunt doubles in many of the main roles, further highlighting his penchant for mixing things up.

If you missed the chance to see Tokyo Tribe last year at the Japanese Film Festival, have no fear – Meld Magazine is giving away three copies of Tokyo Tribe to readers thanks to Madman Entertainment. For your chance to win a copy, simply enter the Rafflecopter competition below.
