films-2017

Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the amount of amazing blockbusters are hitting the cinemas. But finding the right ones to be excited for can be made easy so follow our guide on what you can expect to see in 2017 and why you should be excited!

Kong: Skull Island
Release: March 9, 2017 | Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson

Set in the 1970s, the film sees a group of soldiers, adventurers and scientific experts go deep into an unknown island in the Pacific Ocean. Here they discover unknown terrors including the legendary, King Kong.

The film is meant to be part of a larger connected cinematic universe of monster movies, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is the second in its series (the first being Godzilla). Aside from this, the film looks fantastic from what has been shown so far. An exciting plot, cutting edge special effects and of course, Tom Hiddleston, should ideally make for a great time at the cinema.

The Fate of the Furious
Release: April 12, 2017 | Cast: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Charlize Theron

The eighth instalment in the never-ending Fast and Furious series sees the series go to exceptional heights to thrill and entertain once more. ‘Family’ once again plays a big part in the film and, as one of its trailers indicates, it looks like Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto, will be betraying his for reasons unknown. How the series will progress from this will certainly be a fun one to see unfold.

Transformers: The Last Knight
Release: June 22, 2017 | Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, John Turturro

Reported to be the fifth and final Transformers film directed by Michael Bay, not much is currently known about Transformers: The Last Knight other than the fact that former friends have been turned enemies in this latest film. Optimus Prime, hero and leader of the Autobots, has seemingly gone rogue and as evidenced in the trailer, is pitted against the series’ beloved mascot, Bumblebee. What happens after this? Your guess is as good as ours.

Spider-Man Homecoming
Release: July 6, 2017 | Cast: Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr, Michael Keaton

Spider-Man returns to cinema screens in this new iteration of the popular superhero which sees him become integrated in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. A younger cast means we’ll get to see a much younger Spidey, one that we haven’t really seen before on film.

Robert Downey Jr will make appearances in the film as Tony Stark/Iron Man following his interactions with Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and judging from the first trailer, he appears to be in a bit of a mentor role to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. It’s gonna be great to be able to welcome Spider-Man back home to Marvel.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Release:  December 14, 2017 | Cast: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher

The title of the film was only just unveiled but the eighth mainline entry of the Star Wars films (or what’s now being referred to as “The Skywalker Saga”) has been getting Star Wars fans excited ever since The Force Awakens brought that beloved space universe back to the cinema. Not much is known but with the ominous title looming ahead, fans might be in for some dark surprises.
