We are now taking orders for the Carlton Community Cookbook! Email meld@meldmagazine.com.au with the subject heading “I want one!” and include your name, postal address and mobile/phone number.

FANCY seeing your creations published in a cookbook?

Meld Magazine is embarking on a little community project to publish a cookbook for our neighbourhood!

We’re looking for residents, students, workers and business owners from all over Carlton to contribute recipes representing a piece of their cultural heritage.

If there are personal stories, memories or anecdotes behind the recipes you are contributing, we’d like to include them in the pages of our cookbook too.

The project is being sponsored by the City of Melbourne’s Opportunities for Carlton Fund, and anyone who lives, works, or studies in, or around Carlton is invited to participate.

We hope the creation of the cookbook will be an opportunity to build stronger connections within the neighbourhood. So here’s how it will work:

  1. From now until February 28, we will be shortlisting 40 recipes and holding tasting sessions in kitchens around Carlton where participants will get a chance to meet, mix and mingle.
  2. Ingredients used in the recipes will also be sourced, as much as possible, from local businesses.
  3. Our favourite 30 recipes with accompanying stories, anecdotes and pictures will be collated and published in the Carlton Community Cookbook next June.
  4. The book launch is expected to be held at Readings bookstore in Carlton, and contributors will receive a copy of the cookbook as a keepsake.

If you have a recipe and story to share, simply send in your contributions, including your name, home address and phone number to meld@meldmagazine.com.au or by post to Meld Magazine, Level 10, 488 Swanston St, Carlton 3053.
