FASHION fever hits Sydney as Australia’s biggest designers come together for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and Meld’s very own fashionista Jamie-Maree Shipton is there to cover all the action.

The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) runs from April 8 to 14. Unlike the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival, the week includes solo designer shows curated by the designer and their stylists. In other words, the shows will be a true representation and celebration of that brand and the designer.

So expect look after look from your favourite designers as they show off their Spring/Summer 13/14 collections in the capable hands of some of Australia’s most famous models and promising new comers. Excited yet?

The official schedule has finally been released and as I pack my bags for Sydney, I hear fashion’s golden girl Kim Ellery will be making an appearance despite the multi-million dollar legal battle that’s currently being waged between Myer and David Jones over the exclusivity of her designs.

Emerging talent Emma Mulholland will also present her highly anticipated first solo show, as will menswear designers and recent winners of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival National Designer Award  From Britten.

You can also expect to see the latest offerings from the usual fashion week show stoppers, including evening wear kings Auerlio Costarella, Alex Perry and Tony Maticevski.

Street, casual and ready-to-wear looks will also be shown on the catwalks as the remaining designers promise a diverse and exciting lineup. Keep an eye out for big names like Bless’ed are the Meek, Camilla and Marc, Jayson Brusndon, Lisa Ho, Romance was Born, Manning Cartel and Talulah.

And of course, an Australian fashion week wouldn’t be complete without a swimwear showcase. This year, there will be a group swim show feature where designers like Gypsea, Maidenlove and Surface Too Deep will be the stars.

But MBFW isn’t just about the big names. It’s also an opportunity for up and coming designers, as well as graduate students to showcase their work and break into the Australian fashion industry.

This year the New Generation show will include Betty Tran, Desert Designs, Faddoul, Jamie Ashkar, Natalie & Sarah, The Letter Q, Tristan Melle and Zhivago.

The Innovators show will feature graduate collections from names like Paul Scott, Vinh Nguyen and Ying Yuan and Lerot Nguyen while the Raffles show will feature collections from Aurelia Evelyn Santoso, Ayaka Ichikawa and Nara.

There is definitely a lot to look forward to and Meld will be there to cover it all. Stay tuned for runway updates, designer profiles and interviews, trend reports and DIYs on our website and all our social media platforms!
