Got a story about Melbourne to tell? The ‘My Place in Melbourne’ competition invites all international students in Victoria to share their Melbourne experience. Launched by Melbourne Writers Festival and Study Melbourne, the competition celebrates diverse international student experiences in Victoria and provides budding storytellers a high profile platform to share their perspectives.

The competition promises incredible rewards. Each category winner will receive a trip for two to the Great Ocean Road and tickets to their favourite event at Melbourne Writers Festival. The People’s Choice winner will receive an invaluable mentoring experience with an influential individual in their field. All shortlisted winners will be invited to attend an exclusive writing workshop with a local author at Study Melbourne Student Centre.

Students can submit their stories in forms of writing, film, drawing or photography. Writing submissions for students in English Language Training and VET are up to 500 words and must be submitted in English. Writing submissions for students in Higher Education must be up to 1000 words, also submitted in English.

Multimedia submissions (video, photography, art), can include a comic strip (up to two A4 pages), a photo storyboard (with at least three images), a video (5 minutes maximum) or a single page illustration. Video submissions can be filmed on a smartphone and will be judged not on quality but rather by content.

Entries are opened until 9.00am, Monday, July 31 and winners will be announced on Saturday, August 26.
