Fashionistas won’t want to miss out on the start of Melbourne Fashion Week this weekend!

With a myriad of events running throughout this weekend, you’re certainly not short of things to do. Support fellow students by checking out the RMIT Student Designer Exhibition, explore the haute couture designs of Dior at NGV’s newest exhibition, The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture or see a documentary on iconic fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto all thanks to the much anticipated Melbourne Fashion Week!

Some events are ticketed and some will be free — what you choose to attend is up to you!

PAX Australia at Federation Square
Friday, September 1 – Saturday, September 2 (9.00am – late) | Federation Square (Corner Swanston St & Flinders St)

Before you get your game on at Melbourne’s biggest expo for gaming, PAX Australia, later this October, get a mini-edition of the beloved event this weekend at Federation Square.

Bring some friends along and play party games like Just Dance or the new Mario Bros game, try your hand at giant Jenga, or learn more about the games that independent game makers in Melbourne are creating and try them first-hand. Gaming tournaments will also be held on the big Fed Square screen too!

Game lovers will know where to be this weekend so hurry to Federation Square and game outdoors!

Mould – A Cheese Festival
Saturday, September 2| Meat Market (5 Blackwood St, North Melbourne)

Melbourne sure loves its cheese and if you’ve acquired a taste for it, then consider this event pure heaven.

Mould – A Cheese Festival is just that — a festival dedicated to showcasing 80 different cheeses from 20 cheese producers. Names like Bruny Island, Yarra Valley Dairy, That’s Amore and more will join in on the fun in North Melbourne. Cooking demonstrations and masterclasses will also be on hand for those keen to learn more about their cheesy interests. And what’s good cheese without some drinks! Don’t worry, the festival will have you covered with its well stocked bar.

Tickets are currently sold out for the first session in the morning but evening sessions of the festival (from 6.00pm to 9.00pm) are still available. Tickets are sold at $45 per person and the price of a single ticket also gets you a free glass of wine as well cheese tastings.

Harry Potter Day
Sunday, September 3 | Federation Square (Corner Swanston St & Flinders St)

Celebrate 20 years of the boy who lived with the Melbourne Writers Festival this weekend as Federation Square becomes the site for Harry Potter Day.

This free-to-enter, all-ages event has plenty of fun activities for you to participate in. Those who attend can join in on the fun by getting their face painted, taking part in trivia, cosplay and watching the first Harry Potter film, The Philosopher’s Stone.

So be a wizard or a witch and show off your love for all things Harry Potter by turning Federation Square into Hogwarts this Sunday!
