One thing Australians love more than barracking for their team at the footy is having their mates over for some beers and a barbie (preferably while the footy is on in the background). It doesn’t matter what the occasion is or what time of year it is — hosting a BBQ and cooking meat you’ve just bought from Coles or Woolies is simply part of Australian life.
And that’s exactly what new new Aussie film, The BBQ, explores. The comedy stars Australian comedians Shane Jacobson and Magda Szubanski and celebrates the time honoured backyard tradition in the most Australian way it can.
Laid-back suburban everyman Darren “Dazza” Cook loves to entertain his friends and neighbours with his weekly backyard barbecues. Dazza has also inherited a dubious family history linked to explorer Captain James Cook. While his 12-year-old son, Jayden, is challenged to prove this ancestral link, Dazza takes his passion for barbecue out of the backyard and into the International arena in a heartwarming, gentle fable about family, food and fulfilling potential.
